Mandala

Yesterday my dear friend Vicki and I went to a wonderful resale shop in Jackson, Mi, where I bought a punch bowl. No, I'm not making any punch, but I've been wanting a couple of goldfish for quite awhile, and having learned that each goldfish needs one gallon of water (!) to swim in, and not wanting to pay $12 for a 2 gallon bowl if I could help it, I decided to look for one while we were out. Success! It's a perfect bowl for them - even has roses sort of embossed in the glass ... all for only $4. Such a deal!
Anyhow, when I got home (early because it was snowing and the roads were getting pretty dicey), I decided to try my hand at a Mandala. Now, if I were more computer savvy, I would have a great video right here that you could click on, but since I'm not, I'll direct you to Vicki's blog where you can click on it. You really need to visit her blog anyway - it's so interesting, informative, and wonderful. You can visit her blog here and find the link to the Mandala video: http://vickiholdwick.blogspot.com/2010/01/doodling.html
I did quite a bit on the Mandala yesterday, then at 1:00 AM, Abby (our sweet, but sometimes annoying dog) decided it was a good idea to go out, so since I knew my turn at sleeping was over, I got up and noodled about in the studio. After finishing the drawing, I tried out some of the different inks that my sweetie gave me when he cleaned out his home office over the weekend. I had to supplement them with yellow watercolor since there wasn't any yellow ink, and I watered them down quite a bit because the color was more intense than I wanted it, but it was fun to play with. As Mandalas go, this is about as basic as they get, but for my first attempt, I'm pretty happy with it! Thank you, Vicki!

Very pretty. That video is really great. Haven't tried one of these yet.
Beautiful! I have a friend who draws mandalas but I've always been afraid to try. I'll look at the video & give it a go!
Very lovely! Congratulations! The video is great.
Good job for first try. I too tried one but it did not turn out symmetrical, lol. I like how you colored in the parts.
Very lovely. You did a great job!!! They are so fun. I"ve done a couple, but have not posted them yet.
Nancy I love your Mandala!! You did a great job. I'm going to try it this weekend if I can just put myself in the right mood.
I really like the color combination you used. It's beautiful
I just came from Vicki's blog where she mentioned she went to lunch with Nancy. Guess you are the Nancy! Now I've got it. Your mandala turned out great. Glad to see all the color added. I've got to take the time to go do one. I put the video on my blog but didn't draw one. I think your way of drawing one even if you didn't put the video up is the better way, lol!
Beautiful! Well done.
this is terrific! thanks for the link to the video, too. I've been playing with these lately too and it's neat to see how everyone does them so differently.
Your mandala is lovely: shapes and color choices. It brings to my mind stained glass pieces of the art deco period. Thank you for sharing the link to Viki's video, and your comments on my site. :)
It's beautiful :-)
i just wanted to say thank you - while the past few months have seen me stray from my devotion to EDM (resulting in my Illustrated Journal being a little lacking in creative explorationg!), this morning i happened upon your post ... which led me to your mandala ... which led me to the video ... which led me to spend the last hour or so diving into doodling mandalas (none anywhere as nice as yours!)...so thank you, so very much, for bringing me back to my creative exploration!!!!
i look forward to following your creativity!! :-)
Wow! That was a great video! Thank you! And I really like yours! I have to give this a go.
A wonderful piece! You must be pleased.
This is very pretty! I love those colors.
vey nice indeed....you've done a great job. I find with making a mandala that they are very personal and truly speak of what's happening in your life each time you create one. If you're interested I have several on my blog for you to see.
I find doing them while watching tv is a real fun and focused activity.
Keep making them if you enjoy them.
Nice mandala! My wife and I, as a result of the video, have been making mandalas all weekend. On one we took turns. Not as easy as it looks, but great fun!
Hey Nancy, where are you? Are you being creative or just out blog hopping as I am?
Loved the video & agree with previous posts in that it brings me back to my creativity point where I can start again. Thanks for the refresher idea to get back on track.
