Another beginning

I had a wonderful birthday, thanks in part to all of you who so kindly and generously sent me your helpful and supportive remarks.  You are just the best!  When my sweetie and I got home from having a wonderful dinner at The Common Grill in Chelsea (Michigan, that is), we sat on the porch and I made good on my vow to do something arty.  It had cooled off considerably so it was very pleasant outside.  I got out a watercolor block, pencil, and my trusty, old, watercolors in the tin.   I made a start .... I did a bit of a drawing of a few things on the porch, and did a bit of painting.  It's not complete (and may never be), but the thing is, I did it!  I'm trying not to be unduly critical of it (but the truth is, I can't quiet that voice completely), and  it's about as simple as it can be, but maybe I'll sit on the porch again tonite and have another go at it .... or not!

So, thank you again, to all you special people!

P.S., it's called, Warts and All

Thanks for the comment - you're right, much more satisfying than finger painting! Now, my dear, as for you - are you trying to make a living as an artist? Do things like that depend on it? If no, then just keep trying to get better for your own sake and don't worry about measuring up to some arbitrary standard. Quiet the voice.

Absolutely beautiful. Yes, it is simple ... but wonderfully done. It amazes me when people can draw what they see ... I can't. Of course, I don't practice either! I really like your drawing.

Wonderful painting Nancy! And the BEST part is that you said you would- and you DID! It doesn't get any better than that.

These are beautiful Nancy - the flowers look so delicate, the colors are bright, the shadows are great. Congratulations! And I hope your birthday was perfect....

Nancy this is really pretty - soft and tranquil. Well done you! I am going to write about the inner critic soon - and how I have made use of mine (oh yes, you can:))

Lovely sketch Nancy.
Glad you had a good birthdayday and are picking up a paintbrush again
(try to ignore your inner critic for a while)

These are pretty Nancy even if you don't think so. Keep creating without worrying about the end product, it's the pleasure you get out of it that counts.

Oh I do think this is a quite lovely piece! Absolutely beautiful capture of the reflection on the blue pot too!

Love that blue pot and shadow! Nice greens dispersed in with the flowers too. Bravo to you for picking up the paint brush and just going for it!

Well done Nancy. Very pretty.

I'm so glad that you just sat down and did it! It's really good too! It is simple, but maybe that is they way to break the ice after not talking to your creative self in so long. And you can always go back to this, add some background, finish out the leaves. Baby steps if that is what is necessary! I think you did an excellent job on it. It looks like you even did it without any pre-sketching.(?) Well done!

A painting that reminds you of the day that was most pleasant. Sounds good to me. Yes Every Day Matters.

Happy belated birthday! Good for you to do this painting - and there are no warts whatsoever. I like it! Simple is good.

Yey!! I have only just left a comment on your previous post - so I'm delighted to see such a lovely painting posted by you now. I really hope you are back on your creative track Nancy!

This is such a lovely post Nancy =) And I know I am not alone here saying this, we're all really glad that you're "back"
I am thinking perhaps all artists need to have vacations every once in a while(I know I am having one right now because I can't focus either) But we all know that vacations aren't meant to be permanent, so eventually we'll be back doing what we do best. And Nancy, you're at your best there ^^

It's beautiful in its simplicity. Keep going!

I've been swamped or I'd have been by sooner. Hey it's drawing and painting. Write how you felt on it and turn it into a journal page. Journal pages may have art on them or not but it's never TOO simple or wrong to leave it incomplete. Just set it aside with the date on it and keep it for the memory. That's what I love about journaling - it set me almost free from my critic. (I have to be honest and say not quite; critics are really hard to shut up!)

I think this is just lovely- soft colors and a loose fresh feel to it. Very soothing.
